Competition Overview
This year’s competition format will reflect three different specialties based on the characteristic traits used by World Climbing.
🟡 Coordination: Boulders that involve some level of hand or foot coordination, or both.
🔴 Power: Boulders that are typically more physical and reliant on finger power and strength.
🟢 Slab: Boulders that are on low angle terrain, typically slower-pace and involve reliance on foot placement, balance, and patience.
Fountain Valley Rally (FVR) 2026: Specialty Series is built around one central idea - Your style. Your stage. Inspired by the movement archetypes showcased at the highest levels of international competition, this year’s event will distinctly highlight Coordination, Power, and Slab as three equally valued specialties within modern bouldering. The routesetting will be deliberate in ensuring that each category rewards different athletic profiles: timing and spatial awareness on coordination features, raw strength and tension on powerful terrain, and balance, precision, and patience on slab.
Competition Details
Recreation - Advanced Divisions: Competitors are encouraged to try boulders across all three specialties but will ultimately select only one for scoring and compete against other climbers of the same specialization.
Open Division: The top six competitors from the redpoint qualifier sessions in each specialization will qualify for open division finals. This means that some competitors may qualify for two or even all three specialty finals. If that's the case, competitors may then choose which final they would like to participate in or attempt to compete in multiple finals for a chance at the prestigious Triple Crown award given to a competitor who comes in 1st place for all three specialty finals!
Scoring: As per previous competitions, a competitor's total score will be based off their top five highest-scoring boulders - these must be record in one specialty. We will have a combined (female, male, non-binary) Specialist in the breakdown below for a total of nine winners in the redpoint qualifier sessions.
